Ever thought about making a big difference in the world of renewable energy? Join us at Spark, a Dutch social enterprise that has set out to transform the African energy sector. We design smart solar home systems for emerging markets. This role isn't just about driving sales numbers; it's about building partnerships that bring life-changing power to communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, enabling tangible differences in people's everyday lives.

Why you? Because you're not just looking for a job—you're looking for a way to make an impact. You thrive on the thrill of closing deals and knowing that your efforts directly drive revenue growth. You enjoy tackling the complexities and unpredictability of the Sub-Saharan African market, where delays and logistical challenges can arise.

How? At Spark we provide solar home systems to distributors who then sell these systems to end-users in Africa on a pay-as-you-go basis. Because collections from consumers are slow, Spark provides pre-financing to these distributors. This financing helps them to afford inventory and expand their reach without immediate full payment from customers. With our help, they can grow their business faster, reaching more people with the power and products they need. Your role is crucial in making this happen by managing key accounts and driving revenue growth.

What You Will Be Doing

As our Key Account Manager, you will drive the growth of key partnerships and revenue. Your main tasks will include:

  • Building strong relationships with existing partners to ensure ongoing success and regular business from them.
  • Pursuing new business opportunities, expanding the partner network and onboarding new distribution partners which results in a more diverse portfolio of partners and increased revenue. This involves convincing them to do a pilot with the Spark products and then adding Spark products as a regular product offering in their portfolio.
  • Achieving and exceeding revenue targets by closing deals through calls, meetings and industry events.
  • Managing projects to ensure seamless coordination across teams and timely delivery, including handling Purchase Order issuance, following up on invoice payments, and coordinating closely with the operations teams at Spark and its partners.
  • Monitoring and reporting on progress on various deals through our CRM system.

During the first 30 days, you’ll meet with key internal stakeholders (Business Development Lead, existing Key Account Managers, and support teams) to understand Spark’s product offerings, financial arrangements, and existing partner relationships. Additionally, we will schedule introductory meetings with all distribution partners in East & Southern Africa. In the next two months, you’ll work on understanding existing partner needs, challenges and opportunities. Ideally, you’ll bring expertise and identify immediate opportunities to improve their performance and start identifying ways to bring in additional revenue from current and new partners.

Your team

You'll be working from our Nairobi office, alongside direct colleagues like Micky (Business Development Lead), Jean-Baptiste (Key Account Manager), and our Channel Development Specialist. You'll also collaborate online with our Breda office team, including Pieke (Tech Support Manager), Andres (Invest Manager) and Mauro (Operations Lead). Additionally, you’ll be in regular contact with partners across 20 African countries.

"As an Account Manager at Spark, I love the impact we create through our partnerships. Every day, I collaborate with distributors across Sub-Saharan Africa, helping them navigate challenges so they can deliver reliable energy solutions to underserved communities. It's rewarding to see how our Solar Home Systems empower families, enabling them to light up their homes, start small businesses, and improve their quality of life." Jean Baptiste - Account Manager

What You Will Bring

  • 3-5 years of experience of proven success in sales, business development, or account management, ideally in the energy sector, or a similar industry. A similar industry could be consumer electronics; FMCG or Telco equipment, all in relation to off-grid rural communities.
  • Sub-Saharan Africa or emerging market experience is highly valued.
  • Experience with managing partnerships across different countries and doing stakeholder management from a distance
  • You thrive in an international environment and have experience with working internationally— with people from different cultures, often at a distance.
  • While a Bachelor’s in business or marketing is preferred, we value real-world experience in driving revenue, exceeding sales targets, and building strong partnerships
  • English fluency is required, with additional languages (like French) considered a plus.

Other skills you’ll bring:

  • You’re a proactive, initiative-taker—push things forward without waiting for instructions, actively looking for ways to create impact.
  • You’re resilient and solution-oriented; in challenging market conditions, you persist in finding paths forward and creatively overcoming obstacles. If a deal faces delays or difficulties, you keep pushing until a solution is found. You actively follow up on leads and never let opportunities slip away.
  • You’ve a killer instinct for closing deals, driven by success and motivated by exceeding targets, relentless in your pursuit of opportunities.
  • You like to work autonomously - you make decisions confidently while ensuring key details are shared with the right teams to keep everything running smoothly.
  • You actively listen and adapt your communication style to connect effectively with diverse audiences.

At Spark, we welcome everyone. We believe everyone should have the chance to do well at work, no matter where they come from. If you're excited about this job but don't meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply!

  • Apple Macbook and iPhone from Spark, (public) transport allowance and phone allowance
  • Contribution to health insurance and our pension plan follows government rules.
  • You'll have plenty of responsibility and the potential to grow into other more senior sales roles or regional leadership positions.
  • Join a diverse and welcoming team from 15 different nationalities and be part of a movement that's changing lives.
